The NEC Europe Ltd. Network Laboratories Heidelberg, Germany, have immediate openings for

Student Research Assistants

in the following areas:

 

 

protocols, applications and security mechanisms for ad hoc networks
Internet telephony, SIP, voice-over-IP, multimedia applications
next-generation internetworking protocols and architecture
dynamic and self-organizing network management
wireless car-to-car communication systems
services, applications and middleware for next-generation mobile networks
value-added services, applications and middleware for IPTV

 

Prospective applicants should note that the above list may be incomplete - new positions frequently open up in new research areas.

Qualifications:

Student research assistantships are only available to currently enrolled students of European and international universities in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Communications or related subjects. Graduates are not eligible and need not apply.

Student research assistants are encouraged to complete their Diploma, Master's or Bachelor's theses during their engagement. In general, the minimum duration of an internship should be at least 4 months. Due to administrative overheads, we only accept internships with a duration of at least 6 months from outside Europe.

Prospective applicants should have some of these skills or qualifications:

  familiarity with C, C++, Java (J2SE, J2EE, J2ME), Perl or other programming languages
experience with installing and configuring Linux, BSD, Windows operating systems
experience with installing and configuring DNS, HTTP, SIP, DHCP or other servers
familiarity with basic Internet and communications protocols, such as IP, TCP, UDP, DNS, HTTP, SIP, IEEE 802.11
network administration skills


English is the working language within NEC Network Laboratories and a strong command of English is hence a prerequisite for prospective applicants. All research is performed on-site at NEC Network Laboratories in Heidelberg, Germany. A student research assistantship is a full-time engagement that requires a commitment of 38.5 working hours per week.

references and abstracts of scientific publications
additional professional certifications
