NEC Europe Ltd. is a subsidiary of NEC Corporation, a world leader in the Computer and Communications market with a large base of R&D Laboratories in Japan , China , USA and Europe.

The NEC Laboratories Europe in Heidelberg have a temporary opening for a

starting July 15, 2009. NEC is developing advanced Femtocell systems and network solutions. A key feature of Femtocell technologies will be to provide broadband-speed radio access to mobile users for their standard mobile terminals or data cards. The research focuses in particular on developing novel solutions that enable operators and customers to deploy Femtocell systems and networks in an efficient manner, and to enable provisioning of advanced mobile services (e.g. presence-based services, IPTV, Internet access).

The work focuses on the design and development of future Femtocell systems and networks and is carried out in an international R&D team, fluency in English is required.

The tasks include:

• Design and engineering of novel Femtocell system and network software
• Evaluation of new Femtocell system architectures through prototyping and/or simulations
  

Skills are required in several of the following fields:

•  Understanding of 3GPP systems and protocols (e.g. UMTS, EPS, IMS)

•  Basic know how of radio access technologies and networks (e.g. UTRAN, E-UTRAN)

• Understanding of Internet architecture and protocols (e.g. TCP/IP, SIP, AAA)
• Experience in C/C++ programming and Linux

A Master of Science Degree or Diploma in computer science or electrical engineering is expected.

The project team is based in Heidelberg (Germany). Initially the position is limited to one year. The application deadline is June 30, 2009.
