Software Engineer/Research Associate

starting July 15, 2009. NEC is developing advanced mobility solutions for future mobile networks and terminals. A key feature of future mobile networks is to leverage heterogeneous wireless radio technologies for providing reliable connectivity with the desired quality of service to mobile terminals and radio base stations. This calls for advanced mobility concepts that ensure a seamless service experience for mobile terminals moving between different radio access technologies and networks domains.

The work focuses on software development for prototype and/or demonstration systems and is carried out in collaboration with industrial and academic partners in international R&D projects. Fluency in English is required.

The tasks include:

  • Study of advanced mobility concepts for Next Mobility Generation Mobile Networks
  • Engineering of adequate mobility solutions for wireless (mesh) networks
  • Evaluation of mobility schemes through prototypes and/or simulations

Experiences are required in several of the following fields:

  • Software Engineering methods and tools
  • Experience in C/C++ programming and Linux
  • Understanding of Internet architecture and protocols
    (e.g. TCP/IP, IPv6, Mobile IP, SIP, AAA)
  • Basic know-how of wireless and mobile networks (e.g. WLAN, 3G, LTE, WiMAX)
  • Experience with mobile device/terminal programming advantageous
  • Familiarity with simulation tools (e.g. NS2, OPNET)

A Master of Science Degree or Diploma in computer science or electrical engineering is expected.
