The NEC Laboratories Europe in Heidelberg have a temporary opening for a


Software Engineer/Research Associate


in the area of intelligent transport systems (ITS), starting July 15, 2009. Work focuses on software development for field trial support with industrial and academic partners in collaborative R&D projects, as well as on research and software development for collaborative European Union projects. It is expected that you focus on design and development of systems for vehicular communication towards demonstrations and public trials. A strong interest in product-grade development of communications software for embedded systems is required. English is the working language in the Laboratories, and a good knowledge of German is needed for communication in national German projects.

Skills are required in the following fields:

•  Experience with network programming in C/C++/Java under Linux,

•  Experience with embedded systems software design, development and testing, including cross-compilation

•  Experience with software development methodologies and tools,

•  A good understanding of mobile and ad-hoc communication protocols and networks,

•  An understanding of security for networking.

Target platforms for software development will be PCs and embedded systems. We expect a Master of Science Degree in computer science or electrical engineering.

The project team is based in Heidelberg (Germany). Initially the position is limited to one year. The application deadline is June 30, 2009.
